1950s Yugoslav Vintage Pendant Light, Caramel Opaline Glass Lamp, Romantic Courting Scene, Restored Mid Century Ceiling Light

A truly charming piece of 1950s Yugoslav lighting, brought back to life after decades of use.

When I found this little pendant lamp, it was in a very neglected condition and its beauty was almost completely hidden. After careful cleaning, the wonderful warm colour of the glass reappeared — together with an enchanting little story that unfolds around the shade.

The original hand-blown opaline glass has a beautiful soft caramel / creamy amber tone and is decorated with a series of delicate black and gold illustrations depicting a gentleman and lady in scenes of courtship, conversation and dance. As you move around the lamp, the different images create a delightful little romantic narrative — a wonderfully nostalgic detail from another era.

A very fine gold line around the lower edge of the glass inspired the restoration. Rather than trying to recreate the original fittings, I chose new polished golden metal components to pick up this subtle detail and give the lamp an elegant, luminous presence while allowing the original 1950s glass to remain the star.

The electrical components, suspension, textile-covered cord and ceiling canopy are all new. The original vintage glass has been carefully cleaned and preserved.

When switched off, the opaline glass shows its lovely caramel-ivory colour and the illustrations remain crisp and decorative. When illuminated, the entire shade comes alive with a wonderfully warm golden glow, while the little courting scenes become beautifully silhouetted against the light.

The glass naturally shows some signs of age and previous use, including small surface marks and imperfections. These are part of its history and vintage character rather than something we have attempted to erase. Please study the photographs carefully for the condition and details.

Originally made in Yugoslavia in the 1950s, this is now a unique restored vintage light — romantic, playful and full of character.

It would be particularly beautiful in a bedroom, hallway, reading corner or intimate dining space, and would work wonderfully in a Mid-Century Modern, eclectic, romantic or vintage-inspired interior.
