Vintage HERKO Ceramic Vase / Brutalist Mid Century Pottery / Yugoslavia 1970s / Sculptural Fat Lava Vase

A striking and highly sculptural vintage ceramic vase by HERKO (Herkudec), made in former Yugoslavia, most likely during the 1970s.

This impressive piece of Yugoslav studio pottery features an unusual architectural form with three distinctive circular handles and a beautifully layered silhouette. Its bold geometric proportions give the vase a wonderful Brutalist and Mid-Century Modern character.

The ceramic is finished in a rich warm caramel, ochre and brown glaze, complemented by bands of textured creamy-white glaze around the three recessed sections. The combination creates a beautiful almost Fat Lava effect, typical of experimental European ceramics of the period.

The model number 731-25 has also been documented on other vintage HERKO ceramics attributed to the Yugoslav potter Herkudec.

This is a particularly substantial piece, weighing approximately 1.4 kg / 3.1 lbs, and its sculptural form makes it equally attractive displayed with dried flowers or simply as a decorative ceramic object.

Please note the condition carefully: there is a visible hairline crack near the lower part of the vase, as clearly shown in the photographs. The crack is currently stable and the vase remains structurally solid. However, because of this crack, we recommend using the vase only for dried flowers, branches or decorative arrangements and not filling it with water.

Apart from this noted crack, the vase shows normal minor signs of age and previous use consistent with an authentic vintage ceramic piece.
